Britney Spears Hebrew Tattoo
From LoveToKnow Tattoos
Many things that young chantoosie Britney Spears has done have turned a lot of heads and certainly caused plenty of controversy. With everything from her recent divorce from Kevin Federline to her recent late night jaunts with Paris Hilton and other socialites, Spears is known to do things her way. In that same vein, Britney Spears’ Hebrew tattoo is only one of many other tattoos the young mother of two has gotten throughout recent years.
Britney’s Hebrew Tattoo
Britney Spears’ Hebrew tattoo is located on the back of her neck. The Hebrew text, “מהש” is one of the 72 names which all mean "God" in the texts taken from the Kabbalah. She originally had the tattoo inked and either Spears or the artist made an error that she later had corrected as the original text actually had no meaning. As many other celebrities in the spotlight, Spears started ascribing to the teachings of Kabbalah about three years ago. While some celebrities are widely known to practice this sect of Judaism, few get religious tattoos to signify their new faith. Britney Spears’ Hebrew tattoo showed up not too long after pop mogul Madonna took Spears under her wing to show her not only the ways of Kabbalah but also ways to cope with mega-stardom.
Other Kabbalah Celebrities
Madonna and Britney Spears are not the only celebrities practicing Kabbalah. Other celebrities who do include:
- Guy Ritchie
- Elizabeth Taylor
- Lindsay Lohan
- Demi Moore
- Ashton Kutcher
- Roseanne Barr
- Jeff Goldblum
- Ivana Trump
- Mick Jagger
The Newest Spears Tattoo
After the recent split with “FedEx,” the newest piece added to the collection since the Britney Spears Hebrew tattoo was a tiny star which she had placed on her hand while her sister Jamie Lynn watched on. Nautical star tattoos have become a major trend among young celebrities, including Kelly Osbourne and Travis Barker of Blink 182.
Other Britney Spears Tattoos
Britney is known to have several other tattoos:
- Pink dice on her forearm, said to have been a matching set with Federline’s blue dice tattoo that the couple got shortly after their private wedding.
- A Japanese kanji symbol near her pelvic bone — apparently the original kanji was intended to mean “mysterious” but in yet another technical mishap, the tattoo artist confused this symbol with the kanji which means “strange.”
- A small pixie or fairy on the small of her back.
- A butterfly and vine chain on her right foot.
The Artistic Variety of Britney’s Ink
Britney Spears’ Hebrew tattoo, a religious symbol, is in only one of many genres the celebrity singer has on various parts of her body.
- The star, her newest tattoo, falls under the nautical genre which has been a part of Americana tattoo art since the start of World War I.
- The dice are also a type of Americana art, but are a more modern twist on a vintage style made popular by Sailor Jerry in the World War II era and the years following.
- The flower and vine tattoo located on Spears’ comes from another vintage Americana genre born of the “Flower Child” generation and made popular during the 1960s.
- The fairy tattoo on Britney’s back comes from the fantasy genre and has also been spotted on many other celebrities and has been a sort of “standard” tattoo among young women for years.
More Tattoos for Spears in the Future?
Many columnists, celebrity magazines and Web sites speculate that Britney gets a new tattoo every time she experiences a life changing event. If that is the case, we are sure to see more ink on this star’s skin in the years to come. The question then becomes will Spears go the way of sleeves or full body tattoos? Not likely, but as the years go by with milestones such as having children, chances are a little symbol here and there will pop up from time to time.

Comments
I'm fluent in Hebrew and for a few minutes couldn't understand what Britney had on her neck. Once I realized what she was trying to write - the name for God, Hashem - I felt terrible. She has the letters mixed up! From right to left she has "mem," "heh," and "shin." What she should have, had she gone to a tattoo artist who knew what they were doing, is "heh," "shin," "mem." Oops.
