Custom Temporary Tattoos
From LoveToKnow Tattoos
Temporary tattoos make great party favors and promotional items, especially if you get custom temporary tattoos.
Make Custom Temporary Tattoos at Home
There are many ways to make a temporary tattoo at home. You can use such items as permanent markers, eyeliner and henna. The only problem with using any of these methods is that they take time and aren’t all that easy to use in the long run. The designs you make take time and you can’t mass produce them, so they aren’t very portable and you certainly can’t hand them out. There is also a mess factor that goes along with making temporary tattoos using these methods. However, you won’t have to worry about that if you make them at home on your printer.
Where to Buy Temporary Tattoo Paper
You can purchase temporary decal paper designed for making your own custom temporary tattoos. From there, it is easy to create a tattoo from your home computer. You can purchase this paper from several online sources as well as Staples or Office Depot. Beware of the cost though, because this special paper costs around $20 for just 5 sheets.
Decal Paper: Offers 5 to 50 sheet packs ranging in price from $20 to $100 for inkjet and laser printers. They use water slide paper like the ones you can find in small vending machines at the grocery store.
Papilio: They offer a 5-sheet pack of inkjet transfer paper. The kit also includes 5 sheets of adhesive paper so then the tattoo is together they form a “sandwich” between two plastic liners.
Geo Graphics: This company offers a standard 5-sheet pack or tattoo paper for inkjet printers.
Tattoo Fun: They offer 5 and 10 sheet packs starting at $24.95 for a 5-pack and $39.95 for a 10-pack.
MCG Paper: Weekly specials on quantity orders as well as holiday specials.
Printing on Temporary Tattoo Paper
Getting tattoo paper is just the first step as you must now create your images. You can either create images in Photoshop or another graphics program or download Clipart images to use. You can also use images you have collected over the years. The best ones to use are ones with minimal colors.
- Open up a blank document in a writing program
- Click on insert in the program tab and select image and choose what you want
- Double click your image to change its sizing
- Personalize the image by adding names or dates
- Fit as many as you can on one normal page in the document
- Run off a draft page on a normal piece of paper and adjust images as needed
- Insert your tattoo paper by following the instructions and print on the correct side
- Print on normal mode (too much ink can streak)
- Let the image dry for several minutes
- Trim the images to leave a 1/8th of an inch around the image
- Follow the instructions for application

Purchasing Temporary Tattoos
Sometimes making your own custom temporary tattoos can seem a daunting task. It’s great to do it on your own if you want a minimum number of fake tattoos like for party favors. If you are working on a promotional event like a sporting event, school play or political rally, you may want more than a dozen or so. The following companies specialize in creating custom tattoos for you and your event.
TempTu: This company specializes in temporary tattoos for film and theater. They also create custom tattoos for whatever need you may have but are pricey. They also have some typical flash art you would be familiar with from tattoo parlors.
Tattoo Fun: There are many tattoos available for purchase on their site including many brand name products like Budweiser and sports teams like the Phillies or Padres. They have many categories of tattoos. They make tattoos based on a 1000 run starting off point.
TempTats: Tribal tattoos, animals and other varieties in several categories are available through TempTats. They offer a 1000 print run of custom designed tattoos for $73.50 and a 5000 count run for $119.
Remember when using one of the above companies (or others you may find) that your print run is limited to one design. If you want multiple designs then you will need to purchase a print run for each design..
