Various Forms of Eye Tattooing
When you first hear the phrase, "eye tattooing", a slew of possibilities may come to mind. It seems that if the flesh can hold ink in one way or another, it becomes an eligible candidate for pigmentation. There are a few varieties of eye tattooing. Read on to discover what people commonly opt for with this unique tattoo method.
Cosmetic Eye Makeup
Professional permanent makeup includes a common and popular variety of eye tattooing - permanent eyeliner. Some women simply love having the ability to wake up with their eyeliner already perfectly applied.
Permanent eye makeup may be tattooed onto the upper eyelid and lower eyelid. Eyelash enhancements are also available; this involves a micropigmentation technique that goes through the lash line to intensify and darken the lash bases creating the illusion of thicker eyelashes. Eyeliner can be made as thick or thin as you prefer. This type of eye tattooing is actually quite popular and can look very natural creating a subtle modification.
Various eye makeup procedures can take anywhere between one to two hours. Clients are advised to return for a touch-up session approximately one month following the original visit. This variation of eye tattooing is especially beneficial for people with allergies to conventional cosmetic products. The longevity of the tattoo will depend on pigment tones – the darker they are, the longer the makeup will last with minimal fading. It's always recommended that people planning permanent eye makeup seek the services and advice of a licensed professional technician.
Eyelid Tattoos
With eyelid tattoos, people are able to close their eyes and reveal a hidden picture for onlookers. These tattoos are considered a variety of facial tattoos. Some eyelid tattoos include the following:
- Pictures of eyes; these create the illusion that the eyes are wide open when they are actually shut.
- Words and messages; this is a way to subtly flash messages at people; the words written on your eyelids are noticeable as you blink during face-to-face conversations.
- Tiny personalized imagery; this can be any form of icon that is significant for the wearer.
Eyeball Tattoos
Lastly, there are eyeball tattoos. This variation of eye tattooing comes as a great shock to most people. It seems unlikely that the eyeball is an area that can actually receive any form of pigmentation without suffering major damage.
During the tattooing procedure, the pigment is placed under a thin film on the cornea of the eye; specifically, it is injected between the sclera and the conjunctiva. The pigment then bleeds through the space creating the so-called eye tattoo. Warnings against this variation of eye tattooing include risk of eye-tissue penetration which can potentially damage the tissue and retina impairing overall eye functionality.
Eye tattooing of this nature is generally considered dangerous and unadvisable; however, some people choose to undergo the procedure as an expression of boldness, body ownership and originality. There is a report about a man from Toronto, Canada who underwent this form of tattooing. Nicknamed "Pauly Unstoppable", this enthusiastic individual volunteered to undergo the experimental procedure. As a result, his entire sclera (the white part of the eye) was colored in blue pigmented ink.
As you can see, many forms of eye tattooing exist. Be sure to clearly identify which one is right for you before seeking permanent results!
