In Loving Memory Tattoos
From LoveToKnow Tattoos
Many people get an "In Loving Memory" tattoo to pay tribute to the passing of someone important to them. These types of tattoos allow people to keep that someone special with them always, and can often bring comfort during the grieving process.
Finding the Right Tattoo Artist
If you are considering getting a tattoo to memorialize the life of someone dear to you, take some time to select the best artist for you. Most artists will be happy to talk with you about your plans for your tattoo. They will also show you photos of some of their previous work so that you may get an idea whether or not their tattoo style will be what you had in mind.
Be sure that you feel comfortable with the artist you are considering working with. This is the person that is going to create a deeply personal tattoo for you; you should like him or her.
Designing an In Loving Memory Tattoo
A memorial tattoo can be very intricate or quite simple. You may wish to use a small, significant symbol such as a star or an angel and include dates of birth and death. Or you may have shared a special interest with your loved one such as music, motorcycles, or nature. A tattoo image of something you shared could make a great body art tribute on its own or as an added element to a larger tattoo.
You may wish to take a portrait photograph of your loved one to the tattoo artist that you plan to work with. Talk to him about getting a portrait tattoo, and ask to see some examples of previous similar work he has done. You will want to work with an artist whose abilities allow him to produce a good likeness from a photo.
Designing your memorial tattoo may be a bittersweet activity as you think about the happy memories and also realize that you will be going on without your loved one. Getting the tattoo will bring you comfort, and also create opportunities to share your memories with others.
Animals Touch Our Hearts Too
Pets are family to many people, and their passing can cause devastating heartbreak. These beloved animals are often the subject of an "In Loving Memory" tattoo.
Creating a tattoo memorial to a special pet in your life can be done in the same way that one would design a tattoo for any other family member. The tattoo may be a portrait likeness, or may contain other elements that illustrate the life of a loved one.
Body Placement for Memorial Tattoos
Tattoos created in loving memory of someone special may be placed anywhere you choose, obviously. Many people choose to place their memorial on their chest right over their heart. Another popular body placement for these types of tattoos is the shoulder or upper back. No matter where you decide to wear this meaningful tattoo, you will take comfort in its presence as you carry the image of someone you love with you, everywhere you go.

My father was KIA in Vietnam two months before I was born. I am currently designing a tattoo that will incorporate him in his USMC uniform/USMC Semper Fi and In Memory of without being too busy. It's important to me to have both his portrait and his pride of the USMC - ooRAH! The tattoo will help with part of the closure, although there will never truly be, and always show the pride and love I have for him.
