About Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams has been a pop music fixture in the UK since the 1990s when he performed with the popular group "Take That". The band enjoyed seven number one hits on the UK charts before Robbie left the group in 1995. He eventually went on to forge a successful solo career, battling some addictions and personal demons along the way. To date, Williams has sold over 70+ million records world wide, putting him in the running for Britain's most popular solo act. Despite record sales, he is still not a well recognized performer in the USA, however, he does seem to enjoy a certain anonymity and freedom there that he can't find in Britain.

Robbie Williams Tattoo Collection

Aside from his music, Robbie Williams is a big devotee of body ink. At last count, he has at least 14 tattoos covering most of his body, and possibly more. It really depends on how you choose to group them together.

Among his tats:

  • A pair of swallows on his abdomen: These are most probably an expression of Williams' love of freedom, artistic and otherwise.
  • A Maori tribal half sleeve: Located on his right shoulder, this design is exquisitely detailed and is believed to represent Williams' life.
  • Old English lettering on his outer forearms: Although most of us don't read Old English anymore, the letters on his right arm mean "I love you", and the letters on his left stand for "Mother".
  • A Celtic cross on his upper thigh: According to Williams, the cross is meant to protect him from his inner demons.
  • The musical score for the chorus of the Beatle's classic All You Need is Love is on his lower back.
  • Hearts with the names Jack and Farrell on his inner wrists: These are in honor of Williams' grandfather.
  • A rendering of the crucifixion: The design is inked on his inner right forearm and probably represents the "protection" theme of several of Williams' tats.
  • A lion's head on his right shoulder: The design also includes the inscription "Elvis Grant Me Serenity" above it, and a banner below that reads "Born to Be Mild".
  • The number 1023 on his outer left wrist: There's some speculation about what this number means. Some people think it stands for Williams' birth. Others say it's a code for the initials of his best friend Jonathan Wilkes. Wilkes himself reportedly has the number 1823 tattooed on his thigh. BFFs?
  • A cursive B behind his left ear: Supposedly, this stands for his former nanny's name, Betty.
  • The phrase "Chacun A Son Gout" worn as a collar along his upper chest: The phrase is French and roughly translates to "Everyone has his own taste".
  • The Eye of Horus: Distinctly Egyptian, this tat is located on the back of Williams' neck and is also meant to bring him protection.
  • The word "Love": The individual letters of this tat are inked across the knuckles of his right hand.
