Chris, nerve endings can typically inflict more pain than any other tattoo placement. Thanks for sharing your experience!
-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalakrob, i feel ya man. I got a tattoo on the ribs allof the center area practically, its intense pain man. Funny when you get tattooed near the nipple, you feel like a nerve been touched. and i felt a strange pain on the opossite ribs.
-- Contributed by: ChrisRob, sorry to hear that your tattoo journey has become a painful endeavor. Is there a way to just keep the tattoo a black ink piece to minimize your visits? Inflicting that much pain on your body can't be gratifying! I hope your tat brings peace and that your body heals soon. Good luck.
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI am currently living in japan getting bassicly a huge japanese style peice. its stars at my ankle and goes all the way up covering every inch to my nipple. The pain is getting so bad I now dread going. I have atleast another 40 hours to go, and hate it now, not the tattoo but the proccess. I have so many tattoos all over my body, including my entire foot and ankle. I thought that was bad, nope! I thought my knee cap was bad! nope! I thought my knee pit was bad. Nothing was as bad as getting the line work done on my chest. and ribs. it was pure turture, so bad that I had trouble bleeding, I was crying, I didnt think the human body could be put through so much agony and not pass out. It was so horible that even though the pain will never be that bad agian, I never want to go back, but I have many times, and I still dread the next time. I even tried illiegal pain killers once, I was high as a kite, but when the proccess started I sobered up and felt every second of pain. when he was done, I was high agian. Tylenol and advil dont do crap if Rx strength painkillers dont help. the only thing I could see helping would be lidocaine or numbing cream but they mess up blood flow which is very importatnt. I have heard stories that it will make you tattoo blury. I would never get my ribs or chest tattooed agian. but its too late now, in for a penny in for a pound. and my tattoo looks amazing. but I am paying for it every time I go, and I dont mean money, I mean in the most agonizing pain you could imagine, then add a little more pain, thats what it feels like.
-- Contributed by: robi had a skull that covers my foot , and the there was no real pain it hurt a bit but it dosent hurt its werid but iam going back to get my ribs tattoo so i cant be that bad
-- Contributed by: laurynAshura, Your friend is right...Good luck.
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI had a beautiful Tattoo done on my left lower leg, only have the outlining done so far, was a week ago and have to go back in a week for the rest, I nearly died even though I was so happy to finally be there and have it done, my leg started shaking beyond my own will and I managed to control it by pushing my leg down and concentrating on the pain... Yet I smelled blood and I want a way larger one on my back, knowing I'll die again of pain, but still, even if I'm scared I know I'll get it done, in smaller sessions so my body can cope with it... I know I'm more than hyper sensitive to pain now, but the results outweighs any discomfort I may feel I still hope to find a way to get more relaxed for the filling in a week, but I know I'll fail sonce the sound of the needle makes all of my defenses jump high hehehe A friend who has Tattoos all overhis body told me to either face the pain or not have it done at all, well, I'll face it :-) because I know the result will outweigh any pain in the world
-- Contributed by: Ashura77i had a tattoo on my lower back done about a year ago and i have to say it is a pain i will never forget but it was worth it i am getting another one in a few days on my shoulder blade but i am so scared this one will hurt even more any advice?
-- Contributed by: jessieI'm working on a tattoo by my ankle bone all the way up and i just got the lining I bearly shade in one of the leaves but it hurt so much now i have to finish all of it but its so painful.I know i just have relax and do distract myself.
-- Contributed by: VeronicaJennifer, Seek out a reputable and hygenic artist. Ask for samples of their work. Try to find a recommendation if possible.
As far as the pain goes, I'm sure you'll make it through. Especially after child birth! Try to focus on something else. Enjoy the experience.
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI would love to get another Tattoo, This will be my second one. But Im kind of scared to do it again, the first one I got done 12 years ago. And I still remember the pain, and I also gave child birth... What is Wrong with me, REALLY? Should I just suck it up and do it or be more concerned today with trusting tattoo Artists?
-- Contributed by: JenniferI just got my first tattoo yesturday. It is right on the spine on my lower back. The process didn't really hurt until she started doing the color (the filling in) then it felt like getting poked in a bad sunburn (painful, but not horrible!) The key is distracting conversation. Talk about anything that will distract you from what the artist is actually doing! I will say though... the first time you wash it, after taking off the bandage, hurts like pouring alcohol into an open wound!
-- Contributed by: KatterinaI got my first tattoo when i was 18, im now 33 and im off for another one soon. funny thing is that i can still remember the pain....
-- Contributed by: SanderI have about 7 tattoos... one of which is a backpiece consisting of a koi carp and a japanese dragon. For me, pain is very much in the mind, I love being tattooed because I know that if I ignore the pain then I just sit and chat to my tattooist as if we're sitting having a pint together!! I also find that tattoos over the muscle feel lovely, as the muscle tone supports the vibrations of the needles. Over fleshy areas however there is nothing there to absorb the vibration so it tends to drag a little and is more painful!
xx

-- Contributed by: samAccept and embrace it!! Besides its the best part.. That slow tingle and rush you feel when the needle touches the skin.. its the best part..
-- Contributed by: mannyTattoos are done with needles so anyone that thinks they can do it without pain is fooling themselves. They sure aren't licked on by kittens! Embrace the pain!
-- Contributed by: StacyAnd don't forget... speak up... this is your tattoo on your body if soemthing does not feel right or look right... tell them... a good artist will help fix whats wrong
