I got my lip pierced a little over a week ago on my left side but with a stud and its dark red around it in the back and pretty tender, but my piercer was rude so I dont want to call him...does it sound infected or is it just in the healing process???
-- Contributed by: Sandrai pierced my lip on wednesday using a needle and since then i kept a rod of metal in it. on saturday i bought a flat end barbell with instead of a ball, a spike(it's cone-shaped), so yesterday wehn i put it in(from the back, that is the inside of my mouth) it went halfway then it stuck so in a way i had to drrive the blunt thick end of the stick into my flesh, and that killed it. so i immediately screwed the spike on top. in the morning when i woke up i found out that the back of the spike, which is circular yet sharp coz it depresses towards the front to make the cone, had dug into my skin and had made a circular and red and kind of bruised littlle circle. now i know that i can't take it out and put another one in coz i want it to heal and anyways my lip is still swollen. i know this looks like embedding but, i've got the longest barbell i could find. any suggestions?
-- Contributed by: LekhnaFelicia, it could be scar tissue or an infection. Has it been looked at by a professional. I would advise going back to the piercing studio where they can have a look inside and make a recommendation. Good luck!
-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalaki got my labret 6 weeks ago and after about 4 weeks i noticed that inside my mouth by the bar there is a lump just on the backside not all around my plate. I have many people told me that it should heal and keep it clean . I want to switch my stud i bought i really prety one at this store but im not sure if its going to be to short for my lip or not looks pretty long. What do i do . DO i have to wait tell this lump goes away ?? has anyone had this before
-- Contributed by: FeliciaAudrey, sounds like you may need to visit a piercing studio or your doctor. Sometimes the healing tissue will swell around a piercing, making it difficult to remove. Best of luck.
-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalakthis is my second time getting pierced (snakebites) but i have bigger lips and the piercer did not leave enough room for me them to swell so it looks like I just have studs embedded in my face not just laying there like normal piercings. I've tried removing both of them. was able to get one out and put a longer rod but the other one, the stud won't come lose at all!!!
-- Contributed by: AudreyLena, easy on the sandwiches! Heres to hoping things heal up quickly!
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakGot my labret done yesterday and aside from 20 minutes of swelling after attempting to eat a monster sandwich there has been no trouble :)
-- Contributed by: LenaMickie, Could all be part of the healing. I would suggest returning to the shop and finding out if that is normal by the piercer. Eberybody heals differently. Good luck!
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI got a vertical labret done about a week ago and it's healn and all,but the top of my lip has a crater where the ball sits. Is this normal? What can I do about it?
-- Contributed by: Mickieashley - what jewellery did you pierce yourself with? You might be allergic to the metal, try changing the bar to a Titanium (grade 5 or 23) or PTFE bar.
If the bumps have liquid inside them then you maybe getting abscesses which are a sigh of infection and poor cleaning so maybe pop to a doctors!
-- Contributed by: kukuI've pierced my labret by myself and it's been pierced for exactly 7.5 months and its been a sucess.Lately on the bottom hole theirs like this infection bubble. It comes and goes,so im not sure what to do.
-- Contributed by: ashleyXsu to me this sounds like your bar is rubbing against your lip which often means it is the wrong length for the piercing (either being too long or too short).
Is it a new piercing? Is there a lot of swelling? If so you need to keep ice on it to get the swelling down and maybe consider going back to your piercer to get a longer bar.
If the piercing is older than two weeks then the long bar that is put into lip piercings for all the swelling is rubbing and causing this sore so you'll need to go back to your piercer and get a shorter bar fitted!
It could also be trapped food / dead skin / dried lymph that you haven't cleaned away properly - you'll need to do a sea salt soak (add 1/4 teaspoon to 1 mug boiling water and leave to cool till bearable then hold inside your mouth for 4-10 mins or until it feels cool.) this will loosen anything stuck around the bar and speeds healing. After the soak get a new toothbrush (not an old one as they have lots of bacteria in them) or a cotton bud and clean the area thoroughly using the rest of the salt water mixture on the inside and outside.
Hopefully this has helped you out - if not contact me via my site where you can post questions like this one and read guides about how to properly take care of the piercing. It can be found at titaniumsenthralled.co.nr
Best of Luck!
-- Contributed by: kukuXsu, This may indicate bleeding under the surface. Doesn't sound normal. I would visit your piercer or doctor ASAP. Good luck!
-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalakmy piercing has turned the inside of my lip like dark red/brown in a a small area , is that normal?
-- Contributed by: XsuAs a body piercer i see this page is a breath of fresh air, the information is great! One comment though: Labret piercings actually usually take closer to 3 months to heal as only half the piercing is inside the mouth (which is the fastest healing area of the body) so make sure you give your piercing enough time to settle down before changing it (although it is advise to change your longer swelling bar at 2 weeks with the help of a professional) If anyone would like any advice or more detailed aftercare advice on labret piercings please feel free to visit my aftercare site: .titaniumsenthralled .co. nr!

-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI've had my lip pierced 5 times due to positioning being incorrect but its perfect now, really close to my lip line. doesnt bother my teeth too much and looks cute. Would def suggest to people.

-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakYeah well, i got my labret pierced and its been done for a year and a half or so, I recently went to the dentist and they told me the back of my labret has been rubbing against my teeth and caused the gums to disapear leaving it rubbing against the bone of my teeth. Now im going to have to get surgery from the skin off my pallet removed to be placed at the bottom of my teeth for gum support. They said 50 percent has been worn down of the bone, and if i kept it in any longer my teeth would no longer be supported and FALL OUT. Mine was pierced professionaly , and my labret jewelery was placed in the right spot perfectly as well. I dont know, i guess i just have good luck :) Not everyone gets as lucky as i do though. GOODLUCK! <3chels

-- Contributed by: ElliciaWhat I was told is that it's plasma leakage from the healing. It's completely harmless, and you just need to wipe it off and keep the site clean.
