Darren, great feedback. Thanks for sharing your experience on LovetoKnow!
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI had a tattoo on the weekend. It runs across the whole of my upper back and took about 4 hours. I just made sure I had a good meal before hand and a sugary drink just before. For most of the tattoo I couldnt feel a thing apart from near my spine and shoulder blade but even then it was no more than a mild burning sensation. I really wouldnt recommend taking anything to numb yourself up. just relax and enjoy the experience. Any good tattoo artist will put you at ease and talk you through the process but there really isnt anything to get worked up about. I'm generally the type of personw ho reacts to pain so if I can cope with it I'm sure most people can too.
-- Contributed by: DarrenWP, We always recommend professional tattoos for safety adherment, quality, and after care. Thanks for contributing!
-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalaktattoo yourself. after that i feel really no more pain... having a first timer tattoo and a pro tattoosit is way different than a novice tattoosit and already have a few tattoos!
-- Contributed by: wpI've had luck with Neosporin and my tat did not fade. I guess it is subject to personal experience. I recommend following your tattoist's instructions!
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakNeosporin for post pain relief is one of the dumbest things you can do, unless you want your tat to fade
-- Contributed by: RandomI just got mine yesterday, and boy i realized how much i need to learn how to relax. Definantly being distracted helps.. But squeezing someone's hand too. Also, i found that after the tattoo artist had finished some part of the outline, askin him to rub the tattoo cuz its soothed it for a moment or two.:) i definantly didnt know gettin one would hurt. I got two on my pelvis in color. phew
-- Contributed by: dezSami,I agree. Definatly try to relax during the process and focus on something else. Thanks for contributing.
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI noticed the more you tense up during the tattoo the more pain you feel during the healing process. Talk to your tattoo artist, it distracts you from the actual tattoo and the time it's taking to get it done.
-- Contributed by: SamiEveryone responds differently to the pain of a tattoo. Try to focus on your surroundings rather than the procedure. Bring a friend for distraction and moral support. Good luck!
-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalaki have two and it depends on where you get it but not thinking about it maybe singing or something can help deal with the pain.
-- Contributed by: timMake sure you eat! i didnt have anything to eat all day and went in for the a 2 session and it killed me, the other 6 hours i have had done didnt hurt at all a little more like little electric shocks and scrathing
-- Contributed by: NaughtyMartinEAT.... going in on an empty stomach makes the pain a lot more intense.
-- Contributed by: jimmyI just recently got one myself. I also have incredibly sensitive skin, so while I was getting it done it wasn't too bad, but the day after burned like hell. But it looked beautiful in the end and it's totally worth it.
-- Contributed by: sarahI am in the process of my third tattoo... a rib piece... and the most painful one yet... i fell asleep during my first tattoo(on the back of my arm) and the second was nothing(on my forarm) but the ribs is pretty bad... the outline hurts the most but when the shading starts it becomes bearable, depending on the size of the tattoo there are definately spots that hurt more than others... the closer to the nipple the more painful it gets, as well as the lower abs... there are a few more but my recomendation would be, if you really want it, do it in sessions. Might cost a little more and take a little longer but its worth it in the end.
-- Contributed by: JeremyJust dont think about the pain! It hurts at first but goes after 5 mins as you feel the endorphins kicking in. The only trouble is, the endorphins are apparently addictive which is why people go back for more tattoos. Outline hurts the most as it is only 3 needles and the machine is more powerful, colouring and shading uses about 7 needles and less power so the pain is a lot less. The pain is like pulling an elastic band until it snaps in your fingers! That sharp pain that goes after 5 seconds! Get a tat, its well worth it, even if it hurts!
-- Contributed by: RichardI got a Tattoo 8 days ago on my lower bk heading 2wardz my side/hip. It's my first tattoo and i admit i was so scared of how much pain i would be in, but actually it wasnt that bad... some parts hurt more than others but the pain of the tattoo had made me want more. So all im sayin is getting a tattoo may not be as bad as you might think it will be and the result it worth it!!!
-- Contributed by: JennieI got a tattoo on my foot about 6 days ago...im not gonna lie i thought the pain wasnt unberable some spots were more painful then others but all i have to say is if you hate pain dont get it on your foot
-- Contributed by: briannaif you are thinking about getting tattooed and expect and pain free experience then you are out of your mind!! Every tattoo that i've gotten have hurt BUT that is part of the appeal. I personally think that the pain itself is what makes the tattooing process the most important. you need to feel the pain to really enjoy the tattoo. kinda like buying a car if you don't hassle with car salesmen then you really won't appreciate the car. I guess the moral of my story is don't take pain killers unless you are a trendy coward!!!
