Tipsy, sorry to hear of your loss. There are so many unique memorial tattoo ideas. Consider his lifestyle, hobbies, birth month/sign, etc. and try to incorporate them into a meaningful tat design. Good luck and best wishes.

As a tattooist I really enjoy working with someone to memorialize a loved one in a tattoo. Either a portrait or some symbol that helps you to remember the essence of the person works well. Like the article says..choose carefully as it is forever. The person you lost will live in your heart forever..your tattoo will be forever too.

My boyfriend was shot and killed in october. I have no tattoos and have always been afraid of needles but I just can't get this particular tattoo out of my head...It says, "In Loving Memory" in an arch and below it will be his name. I want to put this on my side on my ribs but I've been told that is a VERY sensitive spot to get tatted. Any advice?

Hey. Very good info. I am waiting to go get a memorial tatoo. I lost three babies, and finally have a little girl at home! I am getting three baby blocks, with the numbers 1,2,3. They will be pastels-yellow, blue, and pink. (We never knew the sex of any of the babies.) I adapted the idea from someone who had a baby's name in blocks...

i have to say that there isn't a 'type' of person that gets a tattoo. yeah way back in the day sailors, whores and convicts sported them. now it has no stigma. if someone isnt the type of person to get a tattoo then, they wont get one. as far as a memorial tattoo. it depends on who you are getting it for. for yourself or for other people to see and know what it stands for. if its more for yourself i would suggest thinking about the person...what pops into your head most frequently? get that. if its for other to see your memorial...get praying hands or a dove or cross with their name and dates on it. i did one yesterday of a drive-in...a mans mom had just passed and she used to take him to the drive in. so he got that. its whatever means the most to you.

I wanted to also reply to kenny about his tattoo. is their anything that your babies specifically loved or said alot or do you have any happy memories of either of them saying something that made you just completely happy or laugh? if so that would be a great idea. also portarits are great with maybe halo's over their heads. On both sides of your chest above your pecks. that would be amazing. And for their birth and death dates you could put sunrise and sunset. That would be sweet. Email me if u want and let me know what you think

I lost my fiancee in a fatal car accident thirty days ago. I can't seem to find a memorial tatto I like because it seems so hard to believe he is gone. I want to get something, but I am going to take my time until I find something just right. No word or image could ever do justice to describe the man he was or what I am feeling now.

i fully agree with memorial tattoos.. i got my partners name tattooed about 2 months after he passed away n 4 months after that i got the portrait n ill never regret it. its like ill always have him with me by my side n i dont worry about wat other people say.. people say im 2 young 2 do it, but im 21, i make my own decisions.
