Mariah, great to hear! Thanks for sharing your tips~
-- Contributed by: Jodie MichalakI just got my septom peirced about a week ago, over here in europe, and i am using whats called octenisept, which is a like saline, but disinfectant. He also told me to soak chamimile in warm water, let cool, then use a cotton ball and place on the peircing, which has stopped the irritation fairly well.
-- Contributed by: mariahYou're welcome! Glad the care instructions and info. could help~
-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalakwow, i'm really glad i saw this. i've been cleanin mine with bactine for about a day now since i did it last night. thanks:))
-- Contributed by: CourtneyZombree: Please stop cleaning with peroxide and bactine!
Peroxide thins the skin around the piercing and burns the delicate inside of the flesh - resulting in heavy scarring and a really high chance of rejection. It literally just burns away dirt, healing tissue, dead tissue and everything else it is path. It even says on the bottle that it is not suitable for puncture wounds - which is what a piercing is!
Bactine is also unsuitable and also damages the healing tissue but what is worse about bactine is it also removes and prevents bacteria from forming in the piercing. While this sounds like it would be a good thing there is not one place inside your body that doesn't have 'good bacteria' doing jobs your body needs doing. Inside your nose their job is to keep out nasty things and in a wound its to help the healing - by removing this bacteria you are confusing your body and resetting your healing process!
The best way to clean is to soak your piercing in a sea salt solution: 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to 1 mug boiling water left to cool till bearable and use to full immerse the piercing in for 4-10mins or till the water feels cool on your skin. This cleans the piercing in a way more natural to your body, the salt pulls out anything trapped in the wound and the hot water opens the capillaries - bringing oxygen to the piercing which speeds healing.
You only need to clean twice a day also, any more will irritate your piercing and make things sore.

-- Contributed by: Jodie Michalaki just got my septum peirced about a week ago. i clean it like six times with hydrogen proxide and bactine, and i could flip mine up the first day and move it. it didnt hurt as bad as i thought it would, maybe its just your pain tolerance.

Mostly the reason the septum piercing is so painful for some people is they don't have what is known as 'the sweet spot' which is a small soft piece of flesh that has less nerve endings that the thicker flesh around it - piercing through that is much less painful but not all people have a sweet spot!
As a body piercer i think it would be valuable to add in a good cleaning method, (the sea salt soak) so people know how to clean their piercings properly! If anyone would like a full, detailed, guide to cleaning their piercings, need to ask a question about septum piercings or just want to poke me please feel free to visit my website ( titaniumsenthralled.co.nr )
Hope this helps to build on a fantastic article! Ku xx
-- Contributed by: Ku KuI pierced my septum myself and changed the hoop a week later, i play with it all time, it hasnt got infected and its healing perfectly fine, when i pierced it, it didnt hurt one bit!!!
-- Contributed by: brookeI got mine pierced about a year ago. At the moment it is gauged to an 8. I'm anticipating the day I can wear my 4 gauge jewelery (only about 5 months left to go!) The initial piercing was pretty painful. From the time the needle went in to about 4 hours after it was finished it hurt like hell. But the healing process was quick and hardly painful, my labret piercing took much longer, and hurt a lot more during its healing process. The major drawback to this piercing is that when you get it pierced/stretch it, its pretty hard to kiss your gf/bf. It gets harder as the ring gets bigger too. But all in all, I'm very happy with this piercing.
-- Contributed by: Skarightstretched my septum to 00g a week or so ago, and I wear a wooden horn in it. I love the looks I get from old ladies and customers at work.
-- Contributed by: dexI just got a double Septum done yesterday. It looks pretty sweet. I used two fourteen rings.
-- Contributed by: SarahI got my septum done about 4 months ago =] It hurts alot at first. But after the first few days I had my jewelry changed 'cause the septum keeper he placed in first was really long. But now its perfect =]
-- Contributed by: October =3i got mine today, and it doesn't hurt one bit. pretty much best piercing ever.
-- Contributed by: Chelsiiraei got my done about 5 days ago, my friend did it for me..mine doesn't hurt unless i bump it, i love it =]
-- Contributed by: ericaaaI Got Mine Done Yesterday ;; It Hurts And You Really Shouldnt Do It Yourself. It May Come Out Wrong or You May Hit Cartilage. But If You Decide Too, Read Up On It. And Make Sure Everything Clean.
-- Contributed by: Frankk=]don't do it yourself, it's too risky.
-- Contributed by: jakeI got my septum pierced a week and a half now and i totally love it. I got it pierced with a a keeper and im kicking myself now because im desperatly want to show it off. i love it so much. it only hurts for the initial piercing, and then after that it doesnt hurt. Go for it!
-- Contributed by: bexsay i wanted to do it myself...could you give me some tips on it..?
-- Contributed by: Breewhen was the septum piercing invented?
-- Contributed by: noahthnx for the info. before, i wasnt sure if i should (or could) use a straight barbell for it lol
-- Contributed by: lauraI just recently had my septum pierced and it healed quickly. It only hurt when I first got it done, I really was suprised. I actually ended up changing the ring the same day. I orginally had a captive bead, but didn't really care for it that much. So I replaced it with a circular barbell. I love it. Honestly, I like it better than what I inticipated.
Thanks for all this information, it's so helpful. You really now what your talking about. Thanks.
