Shelley, Some people have reactions to the dyes used in tattoo ink, especially blue or red. See a physician for an anti-itch cream. Hopefully it will subside over time.

I got a tattoo in October it's now Febuary (4 months later) and my tatoo has been itching like crazy. What could it be from? Please let me know what can help.

what if you didnt get it done professionally and didnt get stuff for the after care will it get easily infected???

You should be using Neosporin and drying the area completley (pat dry) after cleansing. Keep the tat moist with the ointment. If it continues to pus, see a doc.

I had my tattoo done 3 weeks ago and its only the out line thats done. It needs to be completed once the stringy outline has flattened on the skin. I am concerned because its not happening. Is there some substance that i can use to help this stringy outline to settle ?

Thanks for your tips Mark. SPFs are always recommended for tattoos to preserve ink and prevent fading. Thanks for contributing your useful info. with our readers!

I like to use L'Oreal Anti-Aging moisturizers on my tattoos because the ones for day time use have SPF in them, and moisturize the skin better and longer than other plain moisturizers. L'Oreal is kind of expensive but it does last a long time because one application lasts the whole day.

I just got a tatoo a week ago and the guy told me to not use to much moisturizer. why I don't know cause it starting flaking and scabbing. It is on my stomach and goes down to the crease of my groin area. Once I saw it scabbing I started using more A&D but there is a spot by my groin area on the tatoo and on my stomach where the skin seem to literally come off. I am very concerned and am not sure how what to do at this point. Please help

Hi,

I am in India and got a hreat looking Shiva tattoo on my wrist. The problem is that the tattoo artist gave me a tub of Vaseline petroleum jelly to apply on it. I read on a lot of websites that Vaseline should not be used as it robs tattoo of color. Can someone suggest what other stuff can be applied as we dont have Curel, Tattoo Goo or even Savlon antiseptic cream here.

Hi there,

Thank you for the information. I just want to know if the organic aftercare is better than the regular. I have read that it's better to use an aftercare that contains organic ingredients than the regular as tattoo go. They strongly suggest the brand Rose Tattoo Aftercare. Any thoughts will be apreciate.

A tip for protection from the sun on smaller tattoos; try the Waterbabies sunblock stick. You can find it pretty much anywhere (but you might have to look in the babycare section if it's not with the other sunblocks), it comes in SPF 30 or 45, it's easy to apply, not messy, and it's super-gentle. Sometimes they have it with a keychain attached, which makes it hard to forget to put it on!

Im almost covered with tats and tried different remedies and this one works best for me.... After you get your tattoo "hot wash" it (don't get the water so hot it will scold you) with some antibacterial soap, pat it dry and wait a few minutes. Put a THIN layer of A&D ointment (putting too much will bleed out color fast). After a few hours hot wash it again to remove plasma and blood that can cause scabbing, then again ointment. I use the A&D for atleast 2 days, after that the ointment kind of irritates the skin so I begin to use lotion. The lotion I recommend is Equate's Advanced Healing skin protectent lotion (fragance free) at wal-mart. It only costs a dollar and will last awile. Apply it 4-5 times a day (first time you use it it's normal for it to sting for a few minutes). Always keep it clean and if you can hot wash it for the first two days, this prevents scabbing tremendously. And also the typical, keep it out of the sun, no soaking, or letting the shower stream directly hitting it and so forth. I only recommend using neosporin if the tattoo was overdone and scabs up bad, this will atleast prevent scaring and will probably need touched up but its better than your artwork becoming a scar. Using it as an aftercare method fades out color from personal experience. Last but not least, DO NOT use any crazy lotions with loaded fragance, it will burn like hell and will cause a bad reaction. This is my method, but everybodies skin differs.

it helps if you jerk off and rub ur ... all over it it makes it heal a lot quicker

I am just starting to begin my tattoo collection and my first two have been on my left hip and my right hip, but with the location of the tattoos placement, I found it rubbed too much on my first one...then I just started putting plenty of ointment on it and just wearing items that fit loose...which was had because I was used to wearing tight clothes. My advice is, find clothes that you are comfortable in before getting a tattoo...because you can't just walk arround naked...well you could if it was a nudist colony.

I am 33 now and I have my whole body covered and looking to get somethings covered up that I got as my first couple of tattoos. Mainly because I was stupid enough to go outside in a muscle shirt the day after I got it and it faded 2 weeks after. so you really should ask your artist (unlike I did) for aftercare directions. Its a really smart thing to do. especially if you don't want to be walking around with a tattoo that looks all faded and old. and seriously when people tell you to use cream that means use it, don't ignore what people are telling you to do. and don't be lazy either.

I just want to say that I am about to go for my 16th tattoo at the age of 18. and all of the artist that I have went to say something different. I prefere for the first week to put A&D ointment on it, then the whole following week keep puting lotion on it every couple of hours. Its not as easy as you think when you get a tattoo on your arm and its hot out to keep it covered up. when i got mine last one done on my arm and I went outside in the sun I just put a Gauze pad on it and kept it there until i got out of the sun. hope you liked my advice.
